In fact, some would say that you must have child care in order to get your work done.
Others would say that you should never leave your child in child care under any circumstances.
Many bloggers have dealt with this situation:
- Genesis at At Home Mom Blog discusses childcare
- Lorna Doone at freelance Parent hired a nanny
- Kim Spangler at Pajamas, Pacis and Projects - OH MY! acknowledges that avoiding child care motivates some moms to work from home
- Miranda at Creative Construction: Life & Art is also facing the challenges of working on projects with children at home and does a good job of summarizing some of the choices work-at-home moms must consider
- Miriam Schwab at Bizzywoman comes in on the side of getting childcare
Back in the days when I worked in the corporate world, we'd drop our children off at day care around 7:00 a.m. and pick them up around 5:30. That's an awful long day for most preschoolers!
However, my youngest child was already eight years old when I started working from home. I was also able to work part-time for several years, gradually increasing my working hours as my family needs changed. In many ways, my situation starting out was ideal (although making the transition seemed difficult at the time).
I'm working nearly full-time at home now, but if I had needed to work full-time in the beginning I probably would have needed day care of some kind. Also, if I had begun working with infants at home I may have needed child care.
What's your take on work from home child care?
