Many towns and cities will have parades and picnics. For most U.S. workers, this is day off to spend with friends and family.
The Memorial Day holiday goes all the way back to the Civil War in the United States. Most of the National Cemetaries will have memorial services. If you homeschool, a study of the history of Memorial Day can make an interesting school project.
