"Autism is a brain development disorder that impairs social interaction and communication, and causes restricted and repetitive behavior, all starting before a child is three years old."This is something that definitely affects the home and family, and as such can certainly affect a home business owner.
I must say that I feel blessed that so far I haven't had any personal experience with autism in my immediate family. (Although, I know most that the parents of most autistic children feel blessed as well.)
However, I do have a small amount of knowledge about the disorder. One of the children in my neighborhood is affected by one of the autism spectrum disorders (ASDs).
Personally, my heart goes out to any individual or family that must face the challenge of dealing with any disorder. I, for one, welcome the opportunity to learn more about Autism.
The seattlepi.com blog has published a touching tale of one parent's experience with Autism that really opened my eyes to how serious a challenge this disorder can be.
As you read the previous story, keep in mind that it is just the experience of one parent and not necessarily representative of the experience of all.
Additional autism resources include:
- From Medical News Today, World Autism Awareness Day
- From Inquirer.net, World observes first autism awareness day
- From the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, Autism Fact Sheet
However, if this is a disorder that you or your loved one faces, the best source of information is your own medical professional.

Indeed, the world should be more aware of the autism - related issues. And not like in "oh, i've heard of it.." but like in really getting the meaning and the extent of what autism is. I won't get into details, I just wish upon a star that some day, the world, will learn to deal more with issues instead of judging them. It could prove to be a far more useful technique.
