Yesterday, I ran part one of the first ever work-at-home dad interview on Work From Home Momma. This is the second part of the interview with Michael Jones, who also blogs at Best Biz Ware.
The interview picks up where it left off yesterday:
Michael: I suppose this is the corollary to question five. ;o) I'm sure that it is the same situation as everyone else: too much to do in too little time. Even though the scale is smaller for me now, the answer is the same as it always was: learn to work more and more efficiently. Concentration is paramount when you can be distracted by the nice weather outside your home office window and there is no one to say you can't just get up and go out. And you can, of course. You just have to get the work done first.
Work From Home Momma: What are your goals for the next year? For the next five years?
Michael: For quite a while, my goal was to get back to work full-time, no matter what. I have had to make myself understand that is not going to happen. So I have fallen back on a goal that sometimes we lose sight of: quality. Do quality work, know quality people, live a quality life. Everything is smaller now than it once was. That does not mean that it cannot be as good or better.
Work From Home Momma: What achievement are you most proud of?
Michael: I hate that question. ;o) There are so many things! Raising an astonishingly good daughter. Building a system for GE that their internal R & D people said was impossible, allowing them to do perfect QA on industrial diamonds. Volunteering my time, always, for worthwhile causes and people. Not rolling over and giving up when real adversity would have made that easy. Part of all of that is being proud of myself; a bigger part is being proud of the people around me.
Work From Home Momma: Do you have any helpful tips or advice you would like to share with the readers of Work From Home Momma?
Michael: Perhaps just to remember that it does not matter whether you work at home or in a cube at a major corporation. Pay attention, do what needs to be done, and do it with quality and grace. That will insure that you succeed wherever you are.
Work From Home Momma: Thank-you Michael for your openness and your willingness to be the first work-at-home dad interview!
