As a follow up to yesterday's post on the drawbacks of working from home, today I asked the Twitter work-at-home community what they liked about working from home. (It should be no surprise that they thought of a lot of benefits...)
(I've used the Twitter names here, but I encourage you to follow the links to their blogs and get to know them better):![]()
- DegNg of Freelance Writing Jobs loves working from home because she can be with her son and is enjoying the 70 degree weather.
- MenwithPens of Men with Pens likes that he can eat chips at his desk when he works at home.
- jenweissman of The Mote, The Who and The Goose likes not having to answer to anyone else about the use of her time and also being able to put the kids first.
- GrantGriffiths of HomeOfficeWarrior mentioned the freedom to work when and if he wants to.
- WendyM of TVCrunch likes "having my own schedule and not being controlled by 'the man' of big corporat[ions]. Heh. Time with the kids is #1 though."
- blemmet of Writing From The Trenches enjoys the flexibility and the choice of "who I work for, how much I do and sometimes even when I do it. It is also more comfy!" Plus, "I can take my work anywhere. I love the freedom of being able to travel-work." She also makes more money working from home.
- slpowell of Lost In The Words mentioned not having to pay for gas, clothes, and lunches out. (I know that this is true, because these items were a big expense for me when I was in the corporate world.)
- mamarati of Speak Volumes likes having "time with my kiddo. Pajamas and sweatpants. I could live in Mexico if I wanted. I use less gas. Coffee, food, tea cheaper at home." Also she likes having "less pointless meetings" and more "time with pets."
- kellymccausey of Work At Home Moms Talk Radio blog says that she "love[s] the freedom to keep my own schedule, the total lack of an income ceiling and the amazing people I get to CHOOSE to work with."
- elizabethpw of Chronicles of a Mompreneur answered that she "love[s] power over time, only hang out [with] great people, constant change, never bored, no rules. I'm unemployable at this point."
I even got a comment from someone who doesn't work from home. Jenwriter said this: "I don't usually work from home, but I do sometimes. I always enjoy it because I can take my laptop outside or to a WIFI cafe."
What about you? What do you think is the biggest drawback to working from home?
