I don't know who originally made that statement, but I do know that it's a true one.
Not admitting that some things are beyond our control can be a real source of frustration and stress. In fact, it can make us downright miserable.
Now, I personally like for things to go smoothly as much as the next person. By going smoothly, I typically mean that things go the way that I planned.
The reality is, as a mom and a business owner, things often DON'T go the way that I planned for them to go at all. In fact, there are many factors that are simply beyond my control.
There was a time in my life when this would have bothered me a much, much more than it does now. However, over the years, I've come to realize that there's only so much that I can control. Letting go of the things that I can't control is as vital to my happiness as managing the things that I can control.As I was researching this post today I came across an interesting blog from The Happiness Institute. This post, in particular, points out that happiness is in our grasp. Apparently, according to a recent study, we can actually control over 50% of what makes us happy.
50% is a huge number. This is exciting! It means that we don't need to be a victim of our circumstances. By making wise choices and by responding positively to things that we can't change, we can find contentment.
