I sat down to write a post about distractions and found myself distracted more than four times just in the time it took me to finish my first sentence. “Oh my goodness gracious,” my daughter would say.
Taking a breath now, distractions are all around us and unfortunately there is no way to completely avoid them. Sure, we can schedule time for some big distractions; an hour for laundry, maybe fifteen minutes for dishes, but there is always the inevitable, “Mom, can you help me?”
Home has always been my main distraction; from my children, to chores, to wondering if I turned off the coffee pot. I have noticed that making the transition from full-time corporate to part-time corporate and home office, my distractions have not changed; I now have more access to them.
Funny part about working at home, I now can say that I have a top 10 list of distractions. Maybe that is not a good thing to gloat about, but it does lead to some great topics of discussion.

- Laundry. My skin is just itching to go do a load now, but I have to finish writing.
- Dishes. I can’t handle knowing that my both sides of my sink are full.
- Vacuuming. The dogs were on my sofa and the cats, and most likely the kids with food they weren’t suppose to have.
- Whiny Dogs. Time to walk the dogs before my living room floor becomes the fire hydrant.
- Toys. Picking them up off of the floor after stepping on them for the one hundredth time.
- Kids. Asking for this and that, and then this some more, and wanting you to watch Hannah Montana one more time.
- Annoying Cat. Kitty kitty, get off of my keyboard!
- Windows. I love looking out my windows because I live in a mountainous area – enoughsaid.
- T.V. It can be so easy to get caught up in a show and forget you are supposed to be working.
- Surfing. I have a tendency to start on one blog and get carried away then 30 minutes later realize I was suppose to be looking for a purpose.
What about you? What are some of your common distractions? Leave a comment and let us know.

Laura,
I just wanted to say thank you for letting me guest post on your blog this past week. It was great to branch out. I also enjoyed reading all of the other posts and meeting some great new people.
