If you're working on a deadline for your business and you're running behind, then preparing the family meal can seem like a real hassle.
The truth is, cooking is one of those tasks that really can take a lot of time. Not only do you have to prepare and cook the food, you also have to clean up afterwards. I know that when I was growing up my mother spent over an hour on food preparation every single day.
I usually don't have over an hour to prepare the family meal each day. What can I do to make sure that everyone gets fed?
The temptation, of course, is to order something for delivery or run through a drive-through. (That's probably why so many of us struggle with our weight.) But the fast food dinner options are not the best for the family's health or budget.

If you work from home, do you need child care? If so, what kind of child care should you select? I know that many Work From Home Momma readers have chosen to work from home in order to spend more time with their families. I also know that others choose to use some form of child care during their working hours so that they can better support their family. I think that it's time to revisit the topic.

Last week Wendy Piersall at eMom At Home discussed the branding problem a blog faces when it has the term "mom" in it's name or URL. In Wendy's case, the discussion has led her to revisit her brand and examine whether the name still fits.
While I'm not about to change the name of Work From Home Momma (for one thing, it belongs to Know More Media), as someone who blogs on a site with "mom" somewhere in its name, I can fully relate to Wendy's dilemma.
The thing is, a lot of what we discuss here is relevant to dads too. Dads have families that they care about. Some dads work from home. Dads care about issues that affect their families. Dads want to balance their time better. ...And so on... I'm not quite sure what to do for the dads, so I'm throwing this topic open for suggestions.

That's what they are discussing at the Babylune blog. Eliza Feree found a Dallas Morning News article about a new trend of allowing infants to go to work with their moms.
Now, I know that not all of us have home businesses that are large enough to have employees. However, Tamara Berry posted on Freelancing in Pairs last week and there may be other work from home moms who have a partner.

Saying thank-you is an important way to distinguish your home business from other businesses. Yvonne Russell shared the importance of saying thank-you in a post at Home Biz Notes last week, and I agree. We live in a rushed, and often rude world. Many are of the opinion that manners and being polite are no longer necessary and so they don't bother with them.

Mary Emma Allen is a writer/blogger, mom, and grandmother. She has written with kids, grandkids and grand neices and nephews swarming around her. She's held babies on her lap and typed at her computer. Currently she blogs at Home Biz Notes, Alzheimer's Notes, Quilting and Patchwork, writes the weekly "Country Kitchen" newspaper column and helps her husband run a home based business. Most moms choose to work from home so they can be with their children or are less stressed juggling family, job and sometimes a lengthy commute. However, when they get settled into their home business, they find they have to juggle here. Much will depend on the age of your children and what they can do to help.

Today's guest post is from Tamara Berry who blogs at Freelance Parent. She is part owner of a freelance writing business. Freelancers have a pretty solid reputation as home-bound professionals who have little to no contact with the outside world. They work diligently at their computers, communicate through emails, and may not leave the house for days. While there are exceptions to this stereotype, it’s certainly true that introverts and the generally self-sufficient are drawn to this career more than any other personality type.

Dannie McClain is a working mom who blogs at The Brunette Blog. Here's what she has to say about distractions: I sat down to write a post about distractions and found myself distracted more than four times just in the time it took me to finish my first sentence. “Oh my goodness gracious,” my daughter would say.

It's popular these days to talk about online businesses. Every blog that I visit seems to have an online business suggestion (or two, or three). It seems as though everyone wants to work online. However, online businesses are not the only way to work from home. There are many types of service businesses that you can operate from home, as this post from Tom at The Home Business Archive reminds us. If you're wondering what type of home business you would like to get involved in, Tom's post is worth taking a look at.

I actually had an entirely different post ready for today, but when I read the news that today is Pi day I put it on the back burner and decided to write this post instead in honor of every math teacher that I've ever had.
In case you're like me and it's been a few years since you've had math, Pi represents the ratio of a circle's circumference to it's diamers. You can read all about Pi on the Wikipedia. If you homeschool, today would be a great day to study Pi. The number is approximately equal to 3.141...

I'm a big fan of working smarter and, in general, doing things more efficiently. So, when I was offered the opportunity to review The Art of Smart Thinking by Dr. James V. Hardt, I agreed. After all, who wouldn't be interested in the opportunity to learn about getting things done smarter, or at least that's what I thought.
I definitely feel that most of us have areas where we need to improve and learn to be more efficient.
When I began to read the book, however, I discovered that it's not quite something that I could get into. Dr. Hardt has patented a brain wave neuro-feedback technology (which sounds a lot like biofeedback to me), and this book is about the benefits of that technique.

I first got to know Eliza Feree through her fun blog, The Life of a Home Mom! Eliza's blog stood out to me because of her unique twist on everyday events and the knack that she has for finding free stuff on the Internet. (If you haven't visited this blog yet, you should really check it out. Eliza always has a link to a give-away or contest posted.) Eliza also recently took over the helm at b5Media's Babylune blog.

"What's in the water?"
That was the joke around the office when I was pregnant with my first daughter. (Five of the seventeen women in our office were expecting babies at around the same time.)
Well, it turns out that there might actually be something in the water - and that something is not good.

As work-at-home moms, we often try to carve a work schedule out during the time that our children are asleep. This is especially true if we have very young children. But, exactly how much time is that, really? How much work time can you actually find while your child is asleep?
The answer, of course, varies depending on the age of your child and their own particular sleep patterns.

It's time for another another follow up to my New Year's Resolution post. If you are just joining Work From Home Momma, I made a resolution in January to take baby steps towards improving my life and business and to blog about those steps each month. This is that monthly post. My baby steps resolutions are inspired by this post at Work It Mom.
Last month, my goal was to spend less time managing and reading my e-mail.

There are a few legal considerations that you should consider before you start your home business. One of the most important considerations is whether or not having a home business is legal where you live.
There are two main factors think about:
- Do you own or rent your home?
- Does the zoning where you live allow home businesses?

"You can't control everything that happens to you, but you can control how you respond to it."'
I don't know who originally made that statement, but I do know that it's a true one.
Not admitting that some things are beyond our control can be a real source of frustration and stress. In fact, it can make us downright miserable.

March is Women's History Month. Since 1987, when Congress named March as Women's History month, teachers have been using this month to teach the role that women played in U.S. History. If you have daughters, as I do, then you probably want them to know that women have achieved amazing things.
