Mary Emma over at Home Biz Notes wants to know.
As a work-at-home mom taking a cat nap during the day is a very big temptation. It's especially a temptation if I'm operating on a sleep deficit because I've stayed up late the night before. When I feel like taking a nap, it's because I'm just so tired. Do you feel the same?
If you do, then you're not alone. In fact, sleep deprivation is a major problem in our society. We're all just so very busy!
As work-at-home moms, we've eliminated one aspect that robs many of sleep - the daily commute. However, other projects often crop up to take our time.
Not getting sleep can become a self-perpetuating cycle. That's because not getting enough sleep affects our performance. So, if you stay up late one night to meet a deadline, then chances are that your performance will be slower the next day and might again require you to stay up light to meet your deadline.
Sleep deprivation is a vicious cycle that puts you on a path towards failure as you get further and further behind.
What can you do?
Take some steps to avoid missing sleep. Here are five simple measures that you can implement into your routine:
- Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time each day.
- If you must work late to meet deadlines or take care of a sick child, take some of the next day off.
- Make sure that you take at least one day off each week to recharge.
- Keep a calendar and pencil in your obligations. Avoid overscheduling yourself.
- Eat right and get exercise.
What about you? Do you get enough sleep?

I do try to take a nap when my 17 month old son does usually, But some days I just have too much work. But about 3-4 days out of the week I do take a nap!! They help me.
