How would you answer that question, if someone asked you? If you don't have a business plan in place, your home business might not be headed in the direction that you think it is going.
Over at the At Home Mom Blog Genesis has a great post up on the importance of business plans. Her post is called From Work To Home: Write a Business Plan. The post describes two unique types of business plans that you might need: one type to help guide your business, and one type to help your business obtain funding.
I can see two main reasons why a business plan is crucial to the success of your home business:
- It tells you where you're going. With a business plan, you've planned in advance what you want to achieve with your business.
- It's a standard to measure your business against. Is your business successful? It's difficult to tell if you don't know what your business goals are.
Some additional resources to help you learn about business plans include:
- Write a Business Plan from the U.S. Small Business Administration.
- Business Plans from Entrepreneur.com.
- Do You Really Need a Business Plan? from About.com.
What about you? Do you have a business plan? Why, or why not?
