I know for some of you in the northern climates, it's felt like winter for quite a while now. It may be cold where you are, it may even be snowing.
Here are some things to prepare your home business for during the winter:
- Power outages. Winter storms could possibly knock out the electricity. If it happened, how would it impact your business? Do you have profitable activities you can do without electricity, or would you lose a day's revenue?
- Delivery problems. Slick roads and falling snow might make it difficult for delivery vehicles to get to and from your home business. Do you have a procedure for alerting customers to delivery delays?
- Illness. Winter is traditionally flu season. Have you had your flu shot? Whenever possible, it's a good idea to work ahead in the winter to compensate for any downtime due to sickness.
- Seasonal demand. If your business has seasonal products, this may be a very slow or a very busy time for you. Make sure that you have adequate supplies and can produce enough product to meet the demand.
- Kids. With the cold weather outside, the kids may be indoors more. Make sure that you have adequate materials to keep them entertained while you work.
What about you? Is your home business prepared for the winter?
