The depression is believed to be caused by the fact there is less light during this time of the year due to cloudy weather and shorter days.
You can learn more about S.A.D. from this post at Mental Health Notes, or from this article at the Mayo clinic, or from the Wikipedia.
For those who work at home, S.A.D. can result in:
- Descreased productivity
- Fatigue
- Lack of motivation
- General aches and pains
Having S.A.D. can definitely impact the homeworker's ability to get everything done. S.A.D. can also disrupt relationships with family members and sometimes these problems can also impact the home office worker's effectiveness.
Where I live, we are having the third straight day of rain. A quick peak at the weather forecast shows that the weather for most of the week will be the same: rain, rain, and more rain.
While I've never been diagnosed with S.A.D., I do have to admit that these dreary days do leave me also feeling a bit dreary. However, anyone who has a feeling of depression that lasts more than a few weeks could have seasonal affective disorder.
(Note: It's always important to check with your doctor about any type of negative symptoms that you experience.)
What about you? Do you, or someone you know, deal with S.A.D. You are welcome to share your experiences.
