In fact some blogs are posting guides on how to make the most of the after Christmas bargains such as this guide at MommySavers and this guide from Shop To It at washingtonpost.com.
One wildcard factor for this holiday season is the fact that more consumers than ever gave giftcards this holiday season. Gift cards are not actually counted as sales until they are redeemed by the consumer. According to CNNMoney.com, there's 60 billion dollars of unspent gift cards out there.
If our own household is any indication, gift cards were a major part of Christmas this year. For the first time that I can remember, every single person in my immediate family received at least one gift card as part of their Christmas.
What does all of this mean for you, the home business owner?
Here are three top tips for your home business:
1. Buy holiday-themed merchandise now. The best after Christmas bargains will be found on holiday-themed merchandise. Look for:
- Christmas cards for clients and vendors
- Christmas stationary
- Christmas decorations
- Other Christmas-themed bargains
3. Incentive items. You may also find bargains on items now to use as employee incentives and for promotions during the year.
An added bonus to buying items for business use before the end of 2007 - you may be able to deduct them as a business expense on your 2007 taxes. (Check with your accountant to make sure.)
What about you? Are you going to take advantage of the year-end bargains? Did you receive gift cards this year?
