With 2008 starting in just a few days, now is a good time for every home business to review their goals and objectives and create new ones, if necessary.
(This post is an entry in the Getting Things Done contest sponsored by the Pimp Your Work blog. Thanks to Mary Emma at HomeBizNotes for making me aware of this particular group writing project.)
My feed readers already know that I'm a To Do list kind of person. It usually takes a list (or two) just to get me through a day. However, I typically resist setting New Year's resolutions.
Why?
Because, in the past, I've set such lofty goals for myself that I've actually set myself up for failure. (Now, normally I know to set realistic goals, but in the frenzy of setting New Year's resolutions I can get caught up in creating a list a mile long of things that I'd like to do, but realistically never will.) Then, in the middle of January (a depressing month for me anyway since I lost my dad in January of last year), I realize that I've already failed.
However, I found a great idea for New Year's resolutions that you can really keep over at Work It Mom. Basically, Nataly posts about picking one small goal for each month of the year.

I'll go even go one step further. I'll not only set a goal each month, I'll blog about it. I'll dedicate one blog post each month to explaining that month's goal. Maybe we can all learn from my resolutions! This post is the first of that series.
My first goal (for January) is to get more work time out of my day. If I can manage to get more accomplished during the work day, I can reduce the number of times that my work day bleeds into my family time in the evening.
How can I accomplish this goal? It's simple. Get up the very first time that the alarm clock rings. I have a bad tendency to keep hitting sleep doze (sometimes five or six times), but I don't really go back to sleep. So, hitting sleep doze is just a time waster. It actually sometimes causes me to start out my work day already a half an hour behind on my schedule.
What about you?
Do you make New Year's resolutions? If so, why not share a few of them? If not, why not?
