What can you sell on eBay? (NASDAQ:EBAY)
Evidently, just about anything.
According to Yahoo News and CNNMoney.com, the town of Albert, Texas, is for sale. ON EBAY. That's right, I said eBay.
Upon reading the CNNMoney.com article, I was surprised to learn that this listing is not even the first listing for a town. That distinction apparently goes to the northern California town of Bridgeville.
From the Yahoo News article I learned that "the town" consists of 13 acres and includes an old general store, public restrooms, a dance hall, a tractor shed, a three bedroom house, orchards, and land.
Despite the tongue-in-cheek title of my post, the news story make an interesting study in publicity. Selling a town on eBay is unusual enough that it made national news.![]()
If you want to use this technique to draw attention to your business, this is your chance to think outside of the box. What can you do to generate positive buzz about your business that your competitors haven't thought of?
(The risk of this approach, of course, is that sometimes it backfires.)

This is a fun post, Laura, but with a great business message too.
Creating a buzz is becoming increasingly more difficult, so lateral thinking is the order of the day, even if it's not as "out there" as this one.
