First of all, I want to encourage any Work From Home Momma readers who are taking part in this challenge to continue and see it through. There are definitely both short-range and long-range health advantages to quitting.
According to Answers.com, the Great American Smokeout has been around for over 30 years. It makes sense that the event is that old because I can remember hearing about when I was in school.
The American Cancer Society website has reasons to quit smoking, a guide for quitting, and you can register for a Quitline. If you register for the Quitline, someone will call you.
Many local cities are hosting events to encourage smokers to quit. In Philadelphia, according to philly.com, hospitals will be going smoke-free. That's just one example of local events.
If you are wavering about whether or not to quit smoking, consider this list of reasons to quit:
- No secondhand smoke in your home to endanger your children's health.
- Reduced risk of lung cancer.
- Fewer respiratory illnesses.
- Save money by not buying expensive tobacco products
If those reasons aren't enough, consider the reasons listed at About.com: Lung Diseases or WebMD.
I sincerely hope that this post has encouraged someone today. I'm not trying to come down hard on smokers, but I care about my readers and I know that this habit can damage our bodies.
