On Black Friday
Judging from the comments left on the What Will You Be Doing on Black Friday post, it appears that most of us will be staying home on Black Friday.
- Misses E., who blogs at Misses E. Diary of a Work-at-Home-Mom, had this to say:
"No, absolutely not. I never, ever, go shopping on Black Friday. First off, I loathe shopping at the best of times, and second, our little family will be out of town visiting my husband's extended family, who we usually only get to see over the holidays.
Besides, the Friday after Thanksgiving has always meant much more in my family than a day to bargain hunt. It's the day we'd pull down our Christmas decorations and spend all day together trimming the house, listening to carols, and watching the very first Christmas specials of the year. Those decorating "parties" are some of my favorite memories from childhood. Next to that, the idea of slogging through crowds of rabid shoppers and nightmarish traffic seems like the last thing I'd want to do.
Besides, the exact same deals tend to crop back up the second week in December anyway."
- D.J. Nelson, who blogs at All Diva Media, shared an unpleasant Black Friday memory:
"The last time I went shopping on a black Friday some man snatched a watch out of my hand. I almost punched him, but then I remembered that I was an adult, not a silly child, lol. Besides, an assault charge is never a good thing. Needless to say, I will be doing my shopping online. :)"On Continuing Education
Lucy, who blogs at the Corporate Eye, explained her opinion about continuing education:
"I think continuing education is vital - perhaps especially these days, when everything is changing so fast. I'd like to say I learn something new every day ... it might not be quite that often, but I think my learning curve has been steeper over the last five years than at any time in the past.On Getting a Flu Shot
I've done online distance learning courses, and provided you are able to motivate yourself, then they work well. I don't think they'd work so well for people who like to learn in a group."
Most readers seemed to have a mixed reaction. (Who can blame them? Nobody likes to get a shot.)
- Mig, who blogs at Top Hosting Center, thanked Work From Home Momma for the reminder to get the flu shot.
"What a useful entry, Laura! And you did make some good points about business and the rest.
Flu is awful - ok, maybe not always the most dangerous thing, but it does drain you out of power."
- Angelina, who blogs at A Work At Home Mom's Blog, expressed surprise when I shared in a comment about a high school classmate who had died from the flu:
"Wow Ive heard of older people dying from the flu but that young, how terrible! I have never gotten the flu shot but maybe I'll reconsider...Not sure too much about it though, Ive heard alot of people still get the flu even after getting the shot and that it makes you sick when you get it also? Never made sense to me."
- Tammi, who blogs at Drawing on Words, raised the issue of finding a mercury-free shot for young children. (Does anyone know where to find one?)
