This is the first year that I've really started to hear a lot about Cyber Monday. In fact, I've heard about it so often recently that I started asking questions.
Online shopping has been around for many years, of course. I can remember doing a lot of online shopping over ten years ago (when it was still relatively new). But, what is Cyber Monday? When is Cyber Monday?
According to the Wikipedia, Cyber Monday is the Monday after Black Friday when many online retailers run special deals. The term was invented in 2005 by shop.org, which has set up an entire Cyber Monday site.
You can read more about Cyber Monday from USA Today or the Boston Globe.
In a way, Cyber Monday is like part two of Black Friday, but without the crowds.
In fact, many people prefer online shopping to the physical challenge posed by crowded retail centers. With gas prices climbing ever higher, it's cheaper to simply walk to your computer and pull out the keyboard than it is to drive to the nearest mall. (You can count Work From Home Momma among those who would rather shop online.) ![]()
What does Cyber Monday mean for your home business?
If you operate an online shop, you may want to participate in Cyber Monday. It's still not too late to put up promotional notices for Cyber Monday only specials. If your online shop is overstocked with a particular item, you may want to discount it on Cyber Monday.
What about you? Will you be taking part in Cyber Monday? If your answer was "yes," will you be taking part as a retailer, a shopper, or both?

I'm not a retailer just yet, but if I do a lot of shopping, a good chunk of it will be online. Thanks for the tip regarding Cyber Monday. I'm fairly new to online shopping, and I'd never heard of it.
