One site, Think Before You Pink (a project of Breast Cancer Action), is raising awareness about popular pink promotions for breast cancer. Be sure to check here to see if your favorite promotion is listed.
The page that I found most helpful on this site was the one titled Pink Promotions Everywhere. This pages lists questions that you should ask before donating to a breast cancer (or really, to any cause).
I have to admit that I was somewhat embarrassed when I looked through the material on the site. Like many consumers, I have been influenced by the emotions behind the cause and not really done my homework to see if the promotion was legitimate or even giving a significant amount to breast cancer research. I saw the pink and I bought.
That's not to say that all breast cancer awareness promotions are bad. The "think before you pink" campaign is just asking consumers to carefully examine any promotions claiming to donate to the cause.
As a woman, and as a mother of daughters, this cause is especially close to home for me. While I have not personally suffered from the disease, like most women my age -- I know someone who has. It's that close-to-home feeling that makes us so vulnerable to being taken in by pink promotions.

What about you? Do you think companies participating in breast cancer awareness campaigns provide enough information about the percentage that actually goes to breast cancer research?
