Eve Lester at The HomeBizBlogger has been fantasizing about a dream office and the blogger at Work at Home Musings is considering new office furniture.
I decided to play along and describe my ideal office. So, without further ado, here is my description of an ideal office:
- A door to shut. This would have to be number one on my list since I am a WAHM who really appreciates quiet.
- Good natural lighting. I have filled my office with lamps, so I get enough light. However, the only natural light is from a tiny window in the back of my office.
- A larger computer monitor. I actually have a fairly new computer system, but for the type of work that I do (writing and editing) I frequently view documents (and blogs) side by side.
- A photo printer. Okay, maybe just space to hook up the old photo printer that I bought several years ago. (I already have a three-in-one laser printer/fax/copier).
- A closet to hide the filing cabinets in. The filing cabinets are a sad necessity of doing business, but it would be nice to work in a room that wasn't dominated by them.
- A table to spread projects out on. I would just love to have space to sit and spread my projects out.
- More bookshelves. I'm reader, so I can never have too many bookshelves. Currently, my little bookshelf is overflowing.
- A catalog file. Okay, I confess that I'm not sure if that's the name of this piece of furniture. I had one in one of my corporate jobs and I've wanted one ever since. It was like a bookshelf, but with divided cube-shaped shelves. I used each cube for a separate work-in-progress project.
- Shelves to stash paper and supplies. I'd probably put these in the closet with my filing cabinets.

i LOVE this question. The most important thing would be a desk with enough space underneath for me to stretch out my legs, and sit indian style on my ergonomically designed chair. i think i'd really like a corner type desk where my laptop would sit. one side could hold papers, projects, a printer and scanner a shelf type filing system, and the wall above would have a cute steel magnetic board and various other space saving organization. the other side would be cleared for sketching, brainstorming, and spreading out projects.
at least one window is certainly necessary :) i would also love a funky, bright blue color on the walls that is fresh and clean. oh and it would be cool if the whole office matched.
:-)
