Stress Management Tips for the WAHM
Being a work-at-home mom (WAHM) can be stressful. WAHMs can feel torn between the demands of a busy work schedule, kids, and chores. The natural reaction to all of those demands is to feel stressed.

Stress can be controlled in a healthy way, though. It's just a matter of training yourself to react properly to stressors. I found a great site, About.com on Stress Management. The site is filled with tips on managing stress.

Right now the site is running a poll on unhealthy responses to stress. At the time that I took the poll, eating too much and lashing out at people were the leading unhealthy responses.stress-relief-for-WAHMs.JPG I'd like to take a few moments and list some of my favorite healthy stress relievers and then invite you to share yours.

Some of my favorite stress relievers include:
  • Curling up with a good novel. I just love to get lost in a good story, especially if it's well-written. Reading is a great way to forget about your daily pressures.

  • Listening to music. If I'm really stressed, I like to go to a quiet room, lay down or sink into a comfy chair, and listen to some of my favorite songs.

  • Photographing scenery. Some of the most relaxing times that I've had have been when I've been able to get away to a botanic garden with just my husband (no kids) and take pictures.

  • Exercising. I probably shouldn't list this is one of my favorite stress relievers since I tend to procrastinate about exercise, however it is one of the most effective stress releivers. I do have to say that I am always more relaxed and generally feel better after I've exercised.

  • Soaking in a hot tub. I wish I had one of these. On a few vacations we've had the opportunity to stay at a place that a hot tub and I found the experience to be quiet relaxing.
What about you? What are your favorite stress relievers? Leave a comment and share them.

When I'm stressed, YouTube helps me get over it. However, I don't know if I can really call it a total stress-reliever because it can also cause me to get more stressed when I spend too much time watching. You know... :-D

Hi Alfa!

Yeah, I thought about listing TV and videos as a stress-reliever, but I think they are more of an escape. :)
I was trying to focus on healthy stress relief tips for this post.

I've encountered a lot of stress in my life, between divorce, having a child with special needs, joining two families...not to mention running a business...and I found that meditation is really a key factor in helping to keep me even and balanced. I'll even listen to guided sessions that target issues I'm working on while I exercise (two birds with one stone)...and I got so excited that I founded a company to give away a free meditation session to help destress the world. Afterall, if there are more relaxed people out there, we'll all have one less reason to be stressed. Download your free session and listen regularly on your mp3 player or iPod: http://www.hypno-freedom.com. Enjoy! It's worth all of the amazing benefits!

Thanks for coming by Rebecca! Good luck with your business endeavor.

My 3 favorite stress relievers are sitting along the lake front (or any body of water), going for a drive along the highway and completing 500 piece jigsaw puzzles.

These are three different activities that allow me to relax my mind, shift my focus and recharge my positive attitude.

Hi Cassandra!

Sitting along a lake front sounds wonderfully relaxing. I like puzzles too. Driving is okay, but the traffic is heavy where I am so it tends to add to my stress, not relax me.

Thanks for coming by!
