Devoted to WAHMs -Work at Home Moms

The news is full of Mattel's recall of millions of its of toys in the United States. You can read the CNN news article about the Mattel Inc. (NYSE: MAT) recall to learn more.

If you're a mom, chances are that your kids have one (or more) of the recalled toys in their toy box. Recalled toys include such popular products as: Batman, Barbie, and Polly Pocket. (Even if your children are too young to be affected by this recall, you may have been affected by the recent Fisher-Price toy recall.)

Personally, we've been affected by this recall. My youngest daughter and her best friend have collected Mattel's Polly Pocket dolls since they were very young.

(That's my daughter's Polly Pocket doll in the photo with this post. At this time, we don't know if that particular doll is included in the toy recall.)

What can we, as work-at-home moms (WAHMs), learn from the recall? I think the main lesson to take from this recall (which will likely haunt Mattel for years to come) is that quality is important.

The good news is that, as a small business owner, you have a lot of control over the quality of your products and services. If you hire people to help you with your business, make sure that they can be trusted to do quality work.

In fact, this is an excellent time to conduct a quality audit of your business. Ask yourself the following questions:

1. Is there anything dangerous about my product or service?
   
   
2. Is anyone in my business cutting corners in a way that could result in harm to others?
   
   
3. If you produce a product, ask -- how durable is my product?
