However, taking a break can be both beneficial and psychologically necessary. I personally find that I am more productive after periods of rest. The question is, how can a freelancer manage to arrange for a vacation?
The post Remember to take vacation by Andrea Coutu on the Consultant Journal blog offers insight on how freelancers can plan for the financial challenge of a vacation. I've found that it's equally possible to coordinate a vacation with longstanding and repeat clients. You can start by giving them advance notice. With enough notice, many clients may be able to schedule their projects around your time off.
In some instances, you may be able to work far enough ahead that you can take time off without impacting any projects. In other instances your contract with your client may allow you to hire a subcontractor to fulfill your obligation. (You can also offer to fill in for your subcontractor during their vacation.)
Whatever you decide, taking time off for rest is important.
Do you take a vacation? Why, or why not? Leave a comment and let me know how you handle your time off.

Yes. I do take vacations at least once a year, particularly during my birthday. Since I do virtual assistant stuff, it's hard to get away from it all. So I still end up bringing "some" work with me while having a vacation. I just make sure that there's Internet connection wherever I decide to take some time off.
