I've even had my own eBay moneymaking idea (that I've never followed through on) -- buy Christmas decorations after Christmas when they sell for 75% off, store them for a year, and sell them at 40% off when the next Christmas season rolls around.
eBay is a huge topic, so at the end of this post I'll point you to additional resources.
You can use eBay to resell items that you purchase elsewhere (or have around the house), or you can use eBay to sell craft items that you make. One thing you will need if you are selling items on eBay is space in which to store your inventory.
Remember that eBay customers are often collectors (my own husband has "collected" some items off of eBay), so even an old toy from your childhood might be marketable. Frequent sellers can set up an online store.
As an eBay seller, you may be eligible for the tax deductions (such as the home office deduction) available to other home businesses. Ask your tax professional for details.
I couldn't leave an article on eBay without mentioning at least one of the eBay alternatives that have cropped up. Genesis at the At Home Mom Blog has posted about Etsy, a new online market for crafters.
