If you are looking for opportunities to work from home or seeking additional work, you should find this series helpful.
The first type of business that I'd like to talk about is online tutoring. Work at Home Mom Revolution has an excellent list of tutoring services that hire telecommuters and home-based workers.
I've actually known two people who have done and enjoyed online tutoring. For at least one of them, there was a requirement to log into an organization specified chat session at the same time each week. The work hours were flexible in that the person got to sign up for which time slots they would be available. Once they chose a time slot they pretty much had to stick with it until the students were done with the course. Tutors may also be required to check homework.
For most online tutoring positions you will be an independent contractor, but some organizations offer this work as a part-time telecommuting position. Check with your hiring organization to be sure of your employment status.
For many of these positions teaching experience and/or a teaching or college degree is required before you can be hired. Check with the specific tutoring company for their job requirements.
If you enjoy helping people this may be the work at home opportunity for you.
