Over at HomeBizBlogger.com there is an interesting post on telecommuting, Everything you ever wanted to know about telecommuting! The author defines telecommuting, describes how it is easier to find a telecommuting position now than it used to be, and provides some tips for telecommuters.
I have to say that I agree that it is getting easier to find a telecommuting position. Even in my circle of acquaintances I am meeting people, full-time employees of companies, who now have the option to work from home either full-time, or part-time. Many of these same companies would not have considered allowing employees to work from home five or ten years ago. For some workers, telecommuting may be a better alternative than starting a home business. Here are several advantages to telecommuting:
- Employee-status. For full-time workers, this can mean benefits such as insurance, paid vacation, and paid sick days.
- Job stability. While the home business owners must constantly market their services and products to stay working, the telecommuter is assigned products directly through their company.
- Consistent income flow. For many home businesses, it is feast or famine. They may have more orders than they can handle one month, only to be faced with a lull in business the following month.
What about you? Do you telecommute, or own your business? Which do you think that you would prefer?
