If you make or receive a lot of business phone calls, then making your home phone line do double duty might not be the best idea.
Here's four reasons why you may wish to get a separate phone line for your business calls. With a separate line you can:
- Make a business phone line off-limits to other family members. You don't have to worry that one of your children will pick up the phone and say something awkward or give to much information to one clients. The last thing you want your client to know is that you're changing clothes because the baby just threw up on you.
- Establish boundaries by turning the business phone line off during certain hours. If you use the home phone for business you may feel uncomfortable turning it off when you and your family went private time or rest. (After all, you never know when a family member is going to call with an emergency.)
- Use the home phone and business phone at the same time. So what if you have a teenager with the home phone practically glued to his or her ear! Your clients will still be able to reach you on your business line.
- Leave a separate away message on your business phone's answering service. Your home phone's away message probably starts out something like, "you have reached the home of Sally, Samuel, Susie, Stephen, and Sean ..." It probably doesn't matter, but do you really want your business callers to listen to a list of everyone in the family each time they leave a message?
