Please forgive my absence. I regret to report I’m experiencing not-so-technical
difficulty, but something many home workers can probably related to. I lost all my passwords, well I didn’t, technically my husband did, but I’m willing to share some of the blame.
Let me explain.
Friday night I went out to have dinner with some friends and my husband decided it was time to clean up my computer and fix any bugs. He ended up clearing out all my stored passwords. Now, if you’re like me, you have tons of stored passwords. I maintain quite a few blogs and all of the passwords were wiped out. My stats, Adsense, access to forums and blogs, email…everything!
This weekend we’re hosting two birthday parties for my son, one for family and one for kids. It was my intention to post ahead for all of my blogs on Saturday morning and let them drip between yesterday and Sunday. Hard to do when you don’t know any of your passwords and don’t have time to look them all up.
Now, I’m under the impression that it’s never a good idea to use the same password for every account. That’s all well and good, but when you have no clue about your passwords thanks to them automatically appearing in your browser, it might be a good idea to use words you’ll remember rather than random numbers and letters.
What can we learn from this experience?
- Never, ever, let your husband use your computer, even if his intentions are honorable.
- Always leave a list of passwords in an easy to find place, even if said passwords magically appear on your log in page.
- Passwords should be easy for you to remember and difficult for everyone else.
- Don’t let your husband near your computer.
- If you receive an automatically generated password, you might want to change it to something you’ll remember.
- Don’t, under any circumstances, allow your husband near your computer.

You have my sympathy!
