Well, day camp began today. Each morning for three hours, I deposit my
five-year-old at the Parks and Rec., and come home and work.
I love my son, but let me tell you, last week when he was home from school I missed my quiet time, and I missed being able to work during the morning hours. Believe me, three uninterrupted hours truly make a difference.
I debated for a long time over whether or not to do day camp this year. Goodness knows, we could use the money. I knew though, there was no way I’d be able to get all my work done with a five year old around. It wouldn’t be fair to either one of us. The last thing he’d want is for a Mom who works all day in the summer, and I wouldn’t get anything done – as I learned last week.
I often feel guilty for working when my son is at home. By sending him to day camp in the morning, I’m able to get work done, he gets to partake in some fun activities, and we have the afternoons free for the park or the pool. Everyone wins.
