Yes I DO Work

You know what I see as one of the hardest parts about working from home? Convincing others I have a job. There are people who are always asking me to volunteer to chair different groups, meet for a shopping date or baby sit because I’m home all day. When I explain that I’m busy I get, “Oh but you can do that anytime.”

No I can’t.

My job is important to me. I may not put on a power suit and commute for an hour, but people pay me to do my job and do it well. Yes, I can make my own hours but it’s not always convenient to work them around others. I have a schedule that works for me, I can’t change it because one of my neighbors wants to go to Starbucks.

Don’t get me wrong. I enjoy visiting with family and friends, but when I say I have to work it really means I have to work. My desk may be the kitchen table, but my paycheck says I have a job. I’m not about to give that up any time soon.

I totally hear you! Can't believe how my sister will call me up thinking I have all the time in the world to talk. The teachers at school can't figure out why I don't have more time to volunteer as a substitute in their class.

Listen up, folks! I'm working! I just do it at home.

Not only friends and family but OUR kids!!! They think that since we aren't going out of the house that we must not work so they will be the ones to jump up and volunteer us for things at school. "My mommy is always home so she will be happy to help Mrs. Moore!" with a big grin on their face so proud of themselves for being able to give back to the community. LOL They are starting to finally understand though but it has definitely taken awhile for them to grasp the concept since I had formerly always worked outside the home.

Yes! This is so true! I've had people ask how I'm doing, and once I answered that I was tired. "Why are you tired?" they asked, "You're at home all day." What do they think I'm doing-- eating bon bons and watching soaps?

Sheesh!
