Ah yes, Mothers’ Day. The day when my husband and son give me a gift in the
morning and then whisk me off to my mother in law’s where it’s all about her. When it comes to Mother’s Day, I’m pretty easy. If my family really wants to show their love and appreciation, they can offer up one of these:
- Ten undisturbed minutes in the shower without anyone asking when I’m coming out or to tell me I’m using all the hot water.
- A day to myself to do anything I want. A day to work for an hour or two undisturbed, read a book without having to stop every couple of paragraphs to tell a little person to get into bed NOW, watch whatever I want on television without having to worry about whether or not it’s appropriate and hoard the ice cream without having to share.
- A day of shopping by myself. No husband wandering off to the automotive department leaving me to deal with a preschooler with the “I wants”. I want to be able to try on clothes, read the backs of all the paperbacks and generally browse without being asked if I’m ready to go.
- A day when someone else does the laundry, and handles meals, dishes and housecleaning.
- A day without arguments regarding bed times, meals or appropriate behavior.
- A day where someone asks me what I want to do for a change.
See, I don’t ask for much...but if I can't have that I'll settle for an iPod.
