I’m having one of those mornings. You know the kind…where everything is a battle. Even though the morning routine is a repetitious as they come, I find myself repeating orders and instructions over and over again. We wake two hours before preschool begins, we live a half mile down the road from said preschool, there’s no reason for us to be late. By the time I make my drop off, I’m so frazzled it’s hard to sit down and concentrate on work. Here’s how I re-group: though I'm a writer, these tips work for any profession:
- Put on some coffee. I love coffee, it’s amazing how the smell perks me up. I suppose the experts would say I have an addiction, but really, that’s for another post.
- Relax for five minutes. Whether it’s reading the paper, watching the news or just sitting on the back deck, taking five minutes to meditate or distract myself from the morning’s arguments work wonders.
- Read other blogs. Nothing offers inspiration and ideas like reading what my favorite bloggers are up to.
After taking a few minutes, I’m ready to get back to work. I’m careful not to turn my five minutes into a procrastination episode, though. Preschool only lasts two and a half hours, I need that time for work. It’s better to take a few minutes to re-group than to work in a bad mood. Anger and frustration comes out in writing, and that can come back to haunt me.
