Social Networking: Visiting the Virtual Water Cooler

If there’s one thing I miss about working an office job, it’s the camaraderie. I miss the social interaction. I miss going out to lunch with co-workers or discussing news and gossip as we do our work. Work from Home Moms don’t always get to interact with others when they’re home with young children all day, fortunately, there are several places to do this online.

What follows are some of my favorite sites for social networking. Keep in mind that these places aren’t only a great place to discuss the issues, but also to commiserate and discuss work. They can also be a great place to build up important contacts.

  • WAHM.com – Message boards galore! They have a forum for every conceivable work at home job, plus places for WAHMs to discuss issues, swap tips and talk about things like diets or saving money.
  •  Oomph.net – Brought to you by Oxygen Media, Oomph is like MySpace but for grownups. I blog there and so can you. It’s free to set up an account, set up a personal blog and meet some truly great people.
  • BlogHer – Another great place to network and meet others to discuss business or to socialize. Blogher is where the women bloggers go!
  • Minti – This awesome site offers interest groups, advice, a blog and profile page,  and all sorts of good stuff. It’s a “must have” in every WAHM’s bookmark list.

I learned about several great jobs and met a few important business contacts through social networking. Besides, it’s important to take time out and socialize once in a while.  If you’re feeling a bit lonely, visit one of these great places to meet other amazing WAHMs.

What are your favorite places socialize and network?
