While I started out as a freelance writer, 90% of my income comes now comes
from blogging. Several blogs are mine, while the rest of my blogs are owned by others. Because I’m somewhat successful, I get lots of email asking how to begin into blogging for money.
It’s easy enough, if you have a way with words. Having seven years of experience writing for websites is a big plus for me. It also helps to know a bit about blogging, for instance, how to bring in traffic, how to write for the web and how to encourage community. For the most part, if I see a blogging job that interests me, I apply and hope for the best.
Here are a few great places to find blogging jobs:
- About Weblogs (Consolidates blogging jobs from all the below-mentioned job boards.)
- ProBlogger Blog Tips
- BlogHer
- Craigslist
- Indeed.com
You might want to create your own blog before blogging for others, just to play around with traffic and keywords. Do some research and subscribe to plenty of successful blogs to see what makes them so great. Once you build a traffic base you can even play around with ads and try to earn that way.
Whether you’re blogging for yourself or someone else, my best piece of advice is to be patient. It take time for traffic and revenue to flow. Don’t expect to see results in a month or two. It took two years before I began earning a full time income through blogging. Oh yeah, and have fun. Pick a topic you enjoy and know you’ll enjoy for years to come.
