Devoted to WAHMs -Work at Home Moms

Have you ever seen those advertisements offering lists of companies hiring telecommuters? I know many who are tempted to shell out $50 and others who actually did. I’m here to tell you why you shouldn’t.

The first, biggest, reason is that you can find these same lists offered online for free. The places selling these lists would love for you to think they’re doing a major service by selling these lists, but in reality, they’re not. First of all, they’re taking your money for something you can find for free if you look hard enough. Second of all it’s a scam. Everything you need to know about telecommuting and working at home can be found online for free or in the library, also for free.

Once you have your list, what will you do with it? We’re not talking about Joe’s Box Company in Oshkosh. We’re talking about major businesses such as AT&T, Geico and others, companies that probably aren’t hiring. The problem is, thanks to these lists, human resources are receiving hundreds of resumes and inquiries from people who have no chance of getting the job. Now, that’s not to say you’re not qualified. BUT, most of these businesses find telecommuters by hiring within. They’ll go with a trusted employee before setting up any old WAHM off the street with expensive equipment and a heavy paycheck. Besides, even if they were hiring, you’d have to have a pretty impressive resume to stand out from all the other hundreds of applicants.

Don’t buy lists of companies hiring telecommuters. Read the want ads. Visit the job boards. There’s no magic list, save your money.
