Westwood Virtual Staffing is A Scam

Did that get your attention? Good! Westwood Virtual Staffing (and I hear they keep changing their web site so I can't offer a link) basically requires you to pay a $24.95 fee for information on virtual assistant jobs and then directs you to this legitimate site, www.virtualassistantjobs.com.

The link above will take you to a page within this company's web site that will help you in possibly receivng a refund. They are not in any way affiliated with Westwood.

What this company does offer are legitimate virtual assistant jobs in such fields as:

  • Word Processing and Data Entry/Clerical
  • Bookkeeping, Payroll and Accounting
  • Medical Billing & Coding, Transcription and Typing
  • Legal & Medical Assisting
  • General Office Work, Office Administration
  • Customer Support, Sales and Account Management
  • Internet Research, Web Administration and Management
  • Website Management, Design and Desktop Publishing

They don't charge any fees at all. The only thing you would pay for, and it is completely up to you and isn't required for any of the jobs they post, are certifications. You can receive certifications as a basic assistant and then there are the following specialist certifications:

  • Medical Billing Specialist
  • Medical Transcription Specialist
  • Legal Assistant Specialist
  • Real Estate Specialist
  • Web Site Specialist
  • Customer Service Specialist
  • Sales and Marketing Specialist
  • Desktop Publishing Specialist
  • Editing/Proofing Specialist
  • Travel Specialist
  • Data Entry Specialist
  • Accounting and Finance Specialist

They do require a lot of services such as eFax, Callwave, etc. that they say are free services or free 'downloads' but that actually do charge you for the services, at some time. For example, eFax gives you a free 30 day trial and then you are charged $16.95 per month with additional charges after the included 130 faxes etc. Callwave is free for 30 days and then ranges from $1.50 to $7.95 a month.

I really hate when that happens because you are bascially paying out with no guarantee that you will ever get any job with this company.

I wonder if they get kickbacks for requiring you to use these services. I mean, I have a fax machine. Why do I need to pay for a service?

Anyone work for this company yet? I sent off an application. Let's see what happens next.
