With the price of gas going up (and have you seen what profits the oil companies are making?!) and the commute getting crazier and crazier I am supremely grateful to be working from home.
It's that time of the year again when I need to renew my car insurance and pay the car registration. Money is a bit tight right now so although I am concerned about getting it done I am not sweating bullets knowing that if I leave my unregistered car in the driveway (not uninsured!) until I can take care of the fees I am still going to be able to get to work.
The 'rat race,' as this Newsweek.com article calls it, is turning into a triathlon. You need to be in shape to keep up, not to mention your car. Read what the article has to say about commutes:
The drive to get away from it all is turning us into a nation of nomads. As we're pushed to the edge of civilization by runaway home prices and a longing for wide-open spaces, the daily rat race is turning into a marathon. "Extreme commuters" who travel more than 90 minutes to work, one way, are the fastest-growing group of commuters, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. More than 3.4 million commuters take that long road to work every day, double the rate of extreme commuters in 1990.
That is just downright scary!

Avoiding the 25 mile, 45 minute commute was one of the main reasons I quit my day job and started a home based business. A 90 mile commute? Forget it...
