
In a recent WashingtonPost article I read that Fideltiy Investments had one of its notebook PCs stolen, containing personal information on 196,000 current and former Hewlett-Packard employees, including Social Security numbers.
James Martin, the article's author has this to safe about keeping your laptop safe:
So what do you do, short of leaving your laptop in a bank vault? For starters, don't carry data around in your notebook unless it's absolutely necessary. And if you do have to carry sensitive information, encrypt the data and use strong password protection to keep unauthorized users out of your system.
