I read this article today, Zero Sum Relating, on HealthyTimesOnline. In a nutshell, many times, in the game of life as in the game of chess if someone is winning that means someone else is losing, right? But does that have to be the case?
The author gives an example of going window shopping with his wife at the mall. He doesn't like it. She does. Is this win/lose? It's all in how you choose to look at it. If you have direct influence over the happiness and contentment of another person and work towards facilitating that are you losing because they are winning?
In relation to working from home does an employer lose because his employees win? He makes it possible for them to work at home even though it might not be something he sees the benefit of. Is he losing?
Ultimately, if the employee is happy so is the employer. There is direct relation to a happy employee being a productive employee. How can an employer argue with that?
The shift towards telecommuting is being made but not at the desired pace of those who would like to work from home. How can you pick up the pace?
As an employee come up with a plan or two that spells out how you would like to take your job home with you, literally. Do your research. Look into costs, what you will need at home to make it work, how much you can save your employer, how it will benefit your employer and even how it will impact your personal life.
This might be a concept your employer has never really considered or isn't even aware might be a viable option, an option that has you both coming out winners!
