Getting Paid to Moderate Forums

In just a quick search through Google I didn't find too much about actual paying jobs as a forum host or moderator. I did find this bit on a forum from a moderator:

Nah...The people that get paid to work on forums are first of all normaly admins if anything...Cuz a mod's job is normaly just for kicks n such.

N secondly rearely are admins paid either...Unless they work on other parts of the website..For example helpdesk or some random thing like that.

Besides only companies making vast amounts of money can afford to hire people for things like moderators...And if they did they'd have a stricked requirement sheet...Plus probably only hire people that have been witht he company for a long time.

Oh well...Best of luck on your online jobsearch....Some companies do hire just to work online form your comp though...

And this comment from someone who is a moderator on two forums:

I'm currently a moderator at 2 sites, this one and a sportscard trading forum (over 7000 members, but I think only about 1000 are pretty active). At both sites, I've only became a moderator this year. Its a great learning experience in learning how to manage forums. Both have quite a bit of responsibility and require good decision-making skills. But has anyone ever heard of any forums that pay their staff anything? Just curious...

It would seem the search to find a paid moderator job might be a difficult one.
If any of you know any more about this subject share it with us!

Yes, I'd like to see high profile forums go with paid moderators and forum admins too. I have worked for over three years for a site I know can afford it. Given the dedication and the amount of work it is. I think to get and keep excellent moderators they ought to be paid at least a minimum amount. I'm beginning to feel taken advantage of and I'm looking for work as a paid mod. Considering the nature of the sites I work for, I am sure my resume would look attractive to someone by now. This business of very well heeled people putting up sites to drum up attention and sell things for their clients whilst letting basically the entire site be managed by free labour is unseemly and very unfair practice.

Thanks and good luck, I think more very expericenced moderators and admins need to speak up about this matter.

Thanks for your comment. I hope that things can change and I agree-the more that is said about it the more will be done about it. Good luck!
