I came across this article "Best Time Management Tips for Working from Home" on BlueSuitMom. I liked it for the most part but I took issue with just one little, itty bitty thing-- "It's almost impossible to work without childcare." Yes, I know it is hard to work with little ankle biters but for me, that was one of the biggest reasons I wanted to work from home.
I hated dropping my kids off to daycare, juggling the pick up and drop off schedules, and praying that no one would be mean to them or treat them badly. My oldest, 23 years old this month, went to a babysitter at 4 months old and each of his brothers and his one sister ( I have 7 kids) have all been in day care at one time or another. This, my friends, was one of the biggest catalysts to my finding a work-from-home job.
My youngest just turned 5 and I know the difference it has made in his life that I can be here to raise him and not some day care. He was just 3 months old when I returned to work full-time and we did a mix of day care, and daddy until he was about 18 months old. That was when I was lucky enough to find my first work-from-home job. Other than one other stint of about 8 months when I took a job outside the home for the benefits he has been home with me. I wouldn't trade it for the world!
Arrange play dates and preschool to allow yourself some free time and some socializing time for your little ones. Work around their schedules if you can. In my humble opinion, leave the day care for emergencies only. You can never recapture this time in your children's lives and if you work from home you don't have to.
