Before I get to the subject of telecommuting/working at home I just wanted to quickly introduce myself and my blog. The times they are a changing and the work at home world is getting bigger and bigger.
This blog tries to give you up-to-the-minute reviews and spotlights of different work from home companies and opportunities - the good, the bad and the ugly - (Okay, maybe even the cute!) as well as a dash of humor and a pinch of how-tos. So go on and read about telecommuting but don't stop there! Peruse the rest of my web site for topics ranging from an interview with a JetBlue employee to a spotlight on WorkingSolutions. While you're at it why not subscribe to my blog through this feed! Now, on with telecommuting, or is that working from home?
Is there a difference between telecommuting and working from home? Maybe not but the two words conjure up different visions in the eyes of would be employers. Telecommuting is a word that lends itself to professionalism but the phrase 'work from home' is getting more press these days.

No matter what you call it what can you do to prove you can be just as reliable, hard working, and profitable to an employer as their in office staff? One of the first things you need to do is improve on or add to your skill set.
Working from home, or telecommuting, will undoubtedly involve working with a computer. This will require you to know about Internet connectivity, networking, email, file transfers, phone and computer conferencing and more. You will need to know various software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and online presentation programs. You might need to learn about cell phone and handheld computers, down and uploading, podcasts, and more. And that doesn't begin to cover the work that you will be doing, just how you will be getting it done from home.
Look into tutorials, books, community and college courses, online educational options and other resources that will get you up to speed on the technologically advanced world of telecommuting.
While you are learning how to use all the gadgets, gear, and programs do a little research into how much it will cost you to outfit your home office. If you are looking at making a transition from working in the office to working from home for the same company find out if they will provide the equipment, hardware, and software or if you will be required to.
