Could This Be Your Break Into The Work At Home World?

Alpine Access located in Golden, Colorado is "the world's leading outsourcer of call center services using home-based customer service agents working over the Internet". Well there you have it!

Alpine work-at-home agents provide customer service through telephone calls, web chats, or emails and all from their own comfy homes through the use of their own PC, Internet access, and telephone line. This is exactly what you have been looking for right?

Okay lets see how this process works shall we? The following is what would be required from you:

  • Professional, pleasant phone presence.
  • Ability to commit an average of 20 – 30 hours per week within the shift window you select.
  • Reliably quiet and professional work environment during work periods.
  • A reliable personal computer which meets the following system requirements: Windows 98 Second Edition or higher, Pentium II 300 MHz or faster processor, 600MB free hard drive space, 256 MB RAM, Internet Explorer 6.xSP1 or later, antivirus software with current and updated virus definitions, and installed anti-spyware software.
  • Subscription to a reliable high-speed ISP service which has bi-directional speeds of 128K or more and which is neither a wireless nor satellite connection. A wireless connection within the confines of your home is acceptable as long as your DSL or cable connection is "hard-wired".
  • Ability to be on the Internet and on the phone at the same time without the use of a cell phone or IP phone. The telephone must be a corded traditional telephone. No cordless, cellular/wireless, or VoIP (e.g., Vonage, AT&T, CallVantage). Call waiting must be disabled before each work shift.
  • A corded headset with a noise-canceling microphone. The headset must be corded and plug into a corded telephone to allow you to work hands-free.

Some of the info I gleaned in a quick review of their FAQ page.

  • There is no fee to apply
  • All interviews are over the phone
  • You are considered an employee NOT an independent contractor
  • Unlike other similar work-at-home jobs, you are paid between calls NOT just for your time on each call
  • Pay is typically $9.00 per hour
  • You are paid every two weeks through direct deposit
  • There are some benefits available after 90 days
  • There are NO outbound call positions
  • You get paid for training
  • **Ability to call a Denver telephone number without incurring a monthly bill that is unmanageable for you to cover (we recommend an unlimited long distance plan)

The last item on this list would be a fee in my mind since I use my cell phone for all long distance calls (since it is included in my plan for free) and that would mean I would have to pay for this type of service without reimbursement, as I understand it.

Okay peoples, I will apply for this job and see what the steps are for application, interviewing, hiring, and training. Stay tuned.

What was the outcome?

What did you find out about Alpine Access?

Gail,

After the initial application they send you an email with a phone number asking you to call for a further application screening process.

You have roughly about 14 days to make the call before you are taken out of their active application pool. I always like to see how things go if you do it wrong so I didn't call before the deadline.

I got another email saying if I want to be considered again I need to re-apply. My initial hangup is that I have to pay to call them and then I have to pay for an unlimited long distance plan in order to work for them. I will re-apply this week and follow through with the first application call, this time.

Marta

My question is how to contact Alpine Access for an application form and interview. I'm interested and live in the Golden area but I could not find contact information in the phone book nor anywhere on this site.

Alpine, call me if you are interested in hiring at this time- Rosy 720-635-2389.

Rosy,

AlpineAccess takes applications online. They will also progress you through a couple of steps before you are asked to call them for a phone interview. Let me know how it goes for you and good luck!

Marta

Marta are you working for this company yet and how is it going?

I was hired a few weeks ago. I was given a "pending" status, and then was called for 1-800-flowers for mother's day. I couldn't get the time shift I wanted as it was full, but people who've already worked for them get first pick. This is fine w/ me as this job is only a month and there are several listed, though you can only work on one at a time. I figure it as a "foot in the door" thing. As far as the "fee" which you count paying for long distance as, I always thought the advice about not paying a fee for a work at home job referred to paying the company itself any type of fee. They get nothing from this, and it isn't much imho, I can't imagine it's any more than paying gas to get to another job. I though it'd be nice if they had discounts through them on the type of phone you need, but then realized this "fee" issue is probably why they don't, they'd likely be accused of something. (Got mine on ebay for about 1/3 retail.)
Anyway, I also work for west@home, but this seems much better to me, classier, and you get paid by the hour, instead of minutes actually talking. I would get like 3 calls an hour sometimes, but be strapped to the phone the whole time. I'm sure holidays and some of there other openeings are better though. I do the late night infomercial type of sales. I also didn't feel prepared after there training, I never even spoke to one live person (no phone calls) from the time I applied until my first day of work. Infact still havent. I didn't pay long distance for them, but would have if it meant a better job, and actually having hours available for me to work. we'll see how it goes...

Amy,

Thanks for your comments. I like how you compare the gas to get to work to the long distance company required for work. That is a great way to look at it. I just hate to pay for a service that I don't use outside of work when I have no guarantee that I will make a profit from the company.

Keep us posted!

Marta

Shelly,

No I am not working for this company yet. I just didn't want to spend the money yet. I will look into this again when I am ready.

Marta

Hello,
I just thought I'd comment on this position again, I did get hired for 1-800-flowers through alpine for mother's day, and just completed (passed) the training today. I also have worked for west@home (am currently technically still able to do so) and Alpine blows them away. They are much classier in many ways. I would personally not get the long distance/head set unless you are atleast on their pending status (which means you are basically hired, they let you know when a job comes available, which is more likely near a holiday-Valentine's was probably the last good one.) Though this is only a 2 week position, the nice thing is that once you are hired you have access to their job posting board, right now there is several for Kelly's Kids, J.crew, and something for Dillards. And you have better selection re: working times, and much longer commitment times (nine months, typically). Anyway, I would just be aware of price/time it'd take if you needed to get unlimited long distance and phone equipment, comment however you feel best when asked about it, as they say they like applicants to already have it, just make sure you can. (I did get long distance earlier than this, but as far as the phone equipment, I told them I'd ordered it, and did so right away, check ebay first)
Other characteristics they look for:
Proud of their "majority over 35 yrs old" maturity level (I'm not over 35), two years of college, and basically you need to sound 1/2 way intelligent and pleasant on the phone during interview, and stress any previous phone work. I'm just excited for this opportunity!! I worked in an (actual) call center many years ago, and the worst part for me was the "sitting ergonomically", and constantly being told to do so by supervisors. Though it's probably a good idea, the fact that I can work with a laptop in a recliner, in my pj's selling flowers, and even making more than min. wage, ($9.00) woo-hoo!!! Sign me up!!

okay, thanks.

Amy,

Thanks so much for sharing your insights! This sounds like great work and I am so glad you have kept us up to date on what is going on. I will do another post on them so I can get the word out about the positive things.
Keep up the good work and kudos on the pjs! I am a fellow pj sista!!

Marta

Okay. I will just have one last comment, now that I actually have worked a "whole" week. The first day I got off of the phone, last call-a woman who was very angry about -don't remember what-but nothing i was responsible for, I got off the phone literally shaking. I soon realized this reaction to the call, infact many of the calls had more to do more with my own past issues w/ a verbally abuse spouse, another story. At the moment, however, I never wanted to do it again! I dreaded the next morning. By the end of the week, however, after gaining speed and confidnece each day, I got well past this, realized there was nothing in these calls I should take personally, and so I didn't! I spoke to many very kind people, and realized I was LOVING it!! Which surprised me actually, I'm pretty shy....I am actually very disappointed I wasn't needed to work today...and not even really based on monetary reasons!! It was actually fun: you have a little "chat screen" where you may ask your "coach" questions at any time, and read other agent's questions and answers. Though asked not to get "chatty" they were positive and upbeat, and people occasionally posted interesting or funny calls they received. It is much less isolating then other at home jobs felt sometimes. Anyway, I almost want to just keep this quiet...don't want to much competition when trying for another longer-term position!! :)

Amy,

Good job! It can be hard to break out of your comfort zone. You are gaining skills and experience that will help you in so many other areas of your life besides employment. Thanks and keep in touch. I hope you get more work with them!

Marta

FYI - We did away with the long distance requirement a little while ago. We now have local dial-in numbers for almost all of the areas we have agents.

Rob,

Thank you for the update! I will do a secondary post that will include that information as I am sure many people will be interested to know that!

Marta

I have a question regarding Alpine Access, I am in Interview status with them was scheduled to have phone Interview today June 13 but had to reschedule, My question is regarding long distance my phone company has restrictions regarding the unlimited long distance and I am not allowed to use it for conducting business, found this out because my husband called to ask about it they say I will have to have a business line in how are other people doing this? and what is this aboutPosted by: Marta Wells | May 15, 2006 07:09 PM | Permalink to Comment

FYI - We did away with the long distance requirement a little while ago. We now have local dial-in numbers for almost all of the areas we have agents.

As long as you live in a city that we have a local access number for (which is almost all of the cities we have agents in), you will not need unlimited long distance. Does that answer your question?

Rob,

Would it be possible to find out which cities those are? I am working on another post and would love to include any info. Please email me anything you would like me to include.

Thanks,

Marta

Brain doesn't seem to be working correctly.....I can't find your email address on this site.

Mine is rnorris AT alpineaccess.com

Rob,

Sorry, my bad. damomma@workfromhomemomma.com

damomma

You say that you have done away with the requirement of unlimited long distance if you are in a city which you have agents, I am schedule for a phone interview next week, I was suppose to have had it on June 13 but had to reschedule, I live out side of Houston TX could you tell me if you have any agents in cities out side of Houston in the surrounding areas.

R.N.

In order to give you an accurate answer, I need to know your area code.

Sorry Rob I tried to use your personal e-mail but it did not work. My area code is 936

You are good to go, we have dial-in numbers for (281), (832) and (936).

I live in area code 254 in Texas do they have a local number for me area.

Sorry I was speaking of Alpine Access. I have a interview tommorow with them over the phone. I was trying to see did they have something in the 254 area code, Killeen area.

I live in Charlotte, NC area code 704 Do you have a local number access in this area? Also, I would love to do something like this, however, I need a regular paycheck. Are there consistant hours each week?

Sorry, Alpine Access doesn't hire agents in NC. As for Killeen, the closest # we have is a (512).

Rob,

Thanks for keeping us informed and answering questions!

Marta

yes I work 12 hours a day and read alot at night now that my child are grow I belive I would enjoy this and I have long distance service and I have a cell phone so what I really would like to know if you have work after 7:oo pm central in the state of Tennessee

I cannot find a phone number for Alpine Access or any other information on how to fill out an application to apply for employment. Anyone who can help me with this information would be greatly appreciated. Thank-you.

I worked for Alpine Access for a little over two years and I really liked it. My program recently got let go and we were all supposed to move from office depot business to office depot enterprise or something else. I had an emergency and didn't get back to them in time but just so that you know I was paid $9 hour and they were very flexible. You pick your times to work and make sure they mesh with your program requirements and everything works out well. My sister works for Exxon Mobile through Alpine Access and she also loves it. Its a great program, just make sure you have dsl, a reliable computer, a unlimited long distance and you'll be great.

Danyiell,

Thanks for your comments. It is always great to hear from those that are working with these companies to get the inside scoop. Good luck and keep up the good work!

Marta

@Ramona -

Alpine isn't hiring in TN, only CO, UT, AZ, and TX.

@Anonymous -

go to www.alpineaccess.com, click on careers and then click on "become an agent"

FYI - We are hiring for a new client right now, so it's a good time to apply if you are in the following areas:

Colorado Agents: Denver
Texas Agents: Austin, Corpus Christi, Dallas, El Paso, Houston, Lubbock, or San Antonio
Arizona Agents: Tucson

As a heads up though, this will not be an easy client to work for, so if your computer skills are on the basic side, it would be a good idea to consider different opportunities.

Rob,

Thanks for keeping us up to date on current employment opportunities with your company.

Marta

are there any work at home jobs for illinois

I am in Al, does Alpine hire in my state

Here is the info from our Alpine source:

Alpine isn't hiring in TN, only CO, UT, AZ, and TX.

Are there similar companies to Alpine...they seem to have a good rep, not hiring in Al though so could suggest another companys

I have been attempting to log onto Alpine Access for many days. Is the web site down? I live in Texas and would love to work for this company.

@ MarathonMom

Website has been running just fine.

Can you access any page on www.alpineaccess.com? You can also try www1.alpineaccess.com.

If that doesn't work, you should prolly get your computer to a professional as it sounds like you have some malware/viruses/etc.

@laura

I don't know of any off the top of my head. Teletech is launching a work-at-home gig (very, very reputable company...would prolly become the biggest in the industry rather quickly...and the wah division is headed up by a former COO of Alpine).....I do not know if AL is on their list or not. right now, they are only hiring support staff.

Rob,

As always, thanks for filling us in and providing info. I'll look into Teletech and see what they can offer our work at home agents.

Marta

went to west@home website...couldn't find info on what they pay ..how they pay, but not what...also went to telech did not see that they r hirng wk at hm agents...

All of this sounds like what I've been looking for. However, I could cry when I read the states that are hiring. I'm in Louisiana. Anyone know of anything here?

keeping my fingers crossed!!!

Hi, this is all very exciting to hear about. Are there any opportunities for the state of Pennsylvania regarding Alpine???

Deb,

Just a few comments up from yours Rob, a contact at Alpine listed this:

Alpine isn't hiring in TN, only CO, UT, AZ, and TX.

Marta

unfortunetly they are not hiring in my state (ID) and don't know when they will be. Hope this helps someone.

Also reguarding the comment about west.I currently work for west. Most shifts are $.17/ minute of talk time which has been about half of the shift (slow right now) some are $.22, $.23,$.32 it depends on the shifts. I have occationally seen shifts that were $10/hr guaranteed rate but it's been awhile. Shifts have been hard to come by for the first call type with over 7000 people working there now. But there are other calls types you can train for once you put in your time. Let me know if you have any other questions on them.

If anybpdy knows of any companies that are hiring people in DC, MD, and/or VA, please let me know. THanks!

I'm new to all this.Looking to work from home. Do you know of anything that you don't have to use your phone.I cannot get dsl I
live out town.(Oregon)

Does anyone know of any work from home jobs in the state of Louisiana???

Hello! I have a telephone interview with Alpine in a few days. Does anyone know the questions I might be asked? I want to be prepared and do my best!
Thanks in advance!

Good luck! I don't know this answer but maybe someone else will. Either way, I hope it goes well for you. Let us know.

Will Alpine consider workers from MT in the future? If so, do you know how far out that might be?

I am extremly interested in the available jobs. I currently meet all the requirements please contact me asap. 713-728-4040 leave a message with info about interviews and Alpine's contact number. Thanks

La Keisha,

Of course, this is a question only the company can answer. You might try giving them a call or sending them an email. Good luck.

HELLO ALL JUST FOUND THIS SITE TODAY, IN REGARD TO ALPINEACCESS, I JUST APPLIED BUT IN READING YOUR POSTS I HAVE BECOME AWARE THERE ARE LIMITED STATES THAT HAVE POSITIONS..IS OKLAHOMA A STATE WITH ANY POSSIBILITIES??? AND IF NOT ANY RECOMENDATIONS FOR ME TO CK INTO? THANKS AND THANKS FOR YOUR POSTS THEY HAVE HELPED ME...SUSAN

Susan,

Alpine Accessare the only ones who can answer your question about available states but if you have applied I am sure they will be letting you know. Keep reading for more opportunities and be sure and go back and read past posts for information on work at home jobs I have already covered. Good luck in your search!

What happens if you train with Alpine Access or similar companies and you relocate to another city or state...must you quit?

That would depend on the company and their policy. If they hire agents in the area that you move to I can't see that as being a problem. It is best to check with each company individually.

For what it's worth, to me, from ONLY looking at their websites, www.workingsolutions.com seemed to be the best, then alpine. Anyways, people may want to look at them as well.

I currently work for Alpine Access and have nothing but good things to say. I get paid very well and They riemburse you for up to $80.00 for the use of both your phone and internet connection depending also on the amount of hours you work. But is good, no gimmicks, and you get a steady paycheck.

Dear Marta,
Regarding Alpine Access...in a post by Rob on 6/14/06 he indicated that Alpine has local access numbers in many cities, and that you will not need unlimited long distance service. According to Alpine Access in an email to me a couple days ago, they are still requiring that you have unlimited long distance service.
Also, the comment above by E. Valdez on 2/27/07 states that Alpine pays up to $80 for the use of both your phone and internet connection. The current info on Alpine's website does not mention this.
I'm thinking about applying for work with Alpine, but am concerned about all the costs involved before they hire you.
Also, in an article published in "Internet Retailer" (Feb. 14, 2007) they state that "Alpine hired only 2-3% of the 117,000 applications it received for agent's positions last year."
Any comments from you or your readers?

Terry,

They don't reimburse for anything, they do have access numbers in larger cities and don't require long distance if you are in those cities and I was hired by them so I guess I am in the top 3% of the nation! LOL I don't know about their hiring rate but they do have a very good hiring and informational process.

Marta

Marta,
Thanks for your comments about Alpine Access. It sounds like you're happy with them.
I guess I'll have to "bite the bullet" and get a flat rate long distance plan. We're retired and live in a small town in Colorado, but not in Alpine's area code(s). Do you have any suggestions for a carrier that provides in-state long distance at reasonable (flat) rates?
Thanks for your help, Marta.

Hi Gladys! Thanks for coming by. I'm not sure what your message means.

Alpine Access has been around for quite some time and also do subcontracting work.

I think although not in the forfront. They can help you get connected to some prominent companies.

Alpine is one of the subcontracter of a service for persons with disabilities.

This is how I learned of them. They were part of the background investigation.

I dont mind going to the office a few day out of the week; but for the most part these companies offer Virtual Employment Opportunities just a matter of getting your foot in the door.

Hi Veo! Thanks for sharing your experiences with us!

hello all. I am new to the work-at-home process. I am physically unable to work a public job so I have been EXTREMELY interested in working from my home for the past year. I have investigated 1,000's of possible positions and 90% of them were scams, needed $100's to get started or were not very reputable. Please tell me I have finally found the company that is right for me. I have no money to start-up, I have DSL, I have a new PC, I have unlimited long distance calling on my cordless phone (but can get a corded one with no problem) !!! I have searched for so long ! Have I finally hit pay dirt?

Hi Connie!

Welcome to WorkFromHomeMomma! The WAHM who originally wrote this post has moved on. While I work from home, I have not personally worked as a call center agent. Maybe one of the readers can help you? In the meantime, you may find this recent post about call centers helpful: http://www.workfromhomemomma.com/2007/09/call_center_jobs_wahms_what_we.html

Best wishes to you!

IT SEEMS I HAVE BEEN HEARING ABOUT "ALPINEACCESS" OVER AND OVER LATELY......WONDER IF THEY TRYING TO GET IN TOUCH WITH ME..LOL. I'VE READ ALL THE COMMENTS THIS EVENING AND SOUNDS IMPRESSIVE...I HAVE A THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS NEEDED. JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE KNOWS IF THEY HAVE OPENINGS IN OHIO. IT SOUNDS GREAT!!!! SOMEONE LET ME KNOW. THANKS

Hi Judi!

I'm glad that you enjoyed the article. I would suggest looking directly on the Alpine Access site for openings.

I just heard about Alpine Access and wondered if you have opportunities in the 520 area code since you have a Tucson location. I will be living near Tombstone, Az starting mid-November.

Hi Randi!

Here's a link for the Alpine Access site: http://www1.alpineaccess.com/external/index.html.

Good luck!

Hello,

My name is Clarice Roybal and I am very interrested in the position about working from home for Alpine Access. How do you apply for that online? Please email me back regarding that please. I have 11 years of customer service experience, and I would like to work part time for the position. Please email me back regarding information on that! Thank you Clarice Roybal

Hi Clarice!

Thanks for reading. This post is nearly two years old, but here is the link to Alpine Access: http://www1.alpineaccess.com/external/index.html.

That URL should have the latest information!

Good Afternoon Everyone!
I am very interested in working from home. Does anyone know of a company or companies that would hire for area code 701 which is North Dakota? Thanks in advance for all your help. Have a great day.

Hi Susan!

One of the nice things about working from home is that you don't have to work for a local company.

Best wishes to you in your search for a telecommuting position!

Hello All,
I have just read your post about alpine access. I applied about 4 months ago and they have not given me a phone interview yet. I live in GA. How do you know who the companies are that you apply to ?

Hi Kathy!

You could try keeping a spreadsheet listing the companies where you've applied. That way, you know which companies to follow through with.

If you don't have spreadsheet software, then you can buy a spiral notebook and write the names of the companies that you have applied to in the notebook.

Good luck!

I am a new inquirer, trying to ask experienced Veterans of Work from Home Contractors about Alpine Access. Is this a personal Business Venture I should go into? Can I make money doing this? Would my over-head outrun my bottom-line? Please help.

Thank you.

Mr. A

Mr. A.

You should be careful about publishing your phone number online. I removed it for you.

Best wishes! I hope you find the job that you are looking for.
