I ran a drywall repair company with my now ex husband and so I can attest to the truth of some of the tips Nicole offers in this article.

• Have the same vision. If you are thinking long term company growth and he is content with keeping the business small you will butt heads over every little thing.
• Don't be critical or demean each other. Remember you guys are walking from the office across the hall to the bedroom together at the end of the day and then back again in the morning. Keep it nice and you will be glad you did.
• Spell it all out. Figure out who is in charge of what and the rolls you will be taking on before you get started. You can revamp things as needed but if you keep crossing lines of responsibility sparks are gonna fly!
• Get a life. Be sure to punch out on the timeclock and spend time with each other outside of work. It is too easy to talk shop over a candlelight dinner. Fight the urge and make sure your relationship isn't fizzling as your business flourishes.
• Have a plan. Don't think you don't have to answer to the CEO because you have the same last name. You have to have a business plan and stick to it.
• Don't second guess decisions. You trust them right? Talk things out, brainstorm, and make important decisions together but don't nit pick about how they do business or organize their desk unless it is actually harming your bottom line.
