For those who have been awaiting the next installment of Into the West you will be glad to know it is here. Fresh from the presses and ready for your perusal.
The next step in the process of applying for a job with West At Home Agents is going through a certification process. You have five days to complete this process. The first part consists of allowing West to do a search of your computer to detect hardware and software you will need for the job.
Here is how it breaks down:
Minimum PC requiremnts:
- Operating system: must be Windows 98 Second Edition or greater.
- CPU processor name: must have either AMD Duron, AMD Athlon, Intel Celeron, or Intel Pentium III or greater.
- CPU Mhz: must have minimum speed of 800 Mhz.
- RAM: must have 256 MB minimum.
- Screen Resolution: must be a minimum of 1024 x 768.
- Color Depth: must be a minimum of 16 bit.

- Internet Explorer: must have version 6.0 or higher.
- Microsoft Scripting Version: this software is required for training and call taking.
- MacroMedia Flash: must have version 7 or higher required for training.
- Windows Media Player: software required for training.
- RapidPlayer ActiveXControl: required for training. I didn't have this and it detected it and offered a link to download it.
- Java 2 Runtime Environment: software used for call taking.
- Citrix Web Client: software used for call taking and available to download, since, again I didn't have this already.
- Microsoft Power Point Viewer: software required for training and call taking.
- Microsoft Word Viewer: software required for training and call taking.
- Microsoft Excel Viewer: software required for training and call taking.
- Adobe Reader: must have software for training and informational documents.
- RUMBA Secure Redirector Client: must have software for call taking
Recommended software:
- SpyBot-Spyware Remover: recommended to scan for updates and spyware weekly. Link provided for download.
- Ad-Aware-Spyware Remover: same as above.
Software notices:
- Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer: you must have this disabled while on Work At Home Agent sites.
I get a bit leary in downloading things to my computer but what the heck? It's science right? Can't figure out how bad something could or couldn't go if you don't try it out first!
Tune in tomorrow when you find out if my computer is taken over or blows up! Just keep in mind if it is taken over by hackers this blog might not resemble the piece of literary masterpiece you have come to know and love.

Talk about an invasive employer! Scanning your home computer is like performing a full body cavity search, only they get tons more information out of it ... I hope your experiment goes well, Marta!
