Don’t let your desire or even your desperation to find a job that allows you to work from home blind you to the scams, schemes and dream busters that are just waiting to take you for a ride. Learn from those that have blazed the trail ahead of you. That old adage –“If it sounds too good to be true it probably is” – should appeal to the common sense in all of us.
I’ve listed below some common work-at-home schemes that you should be leery of, according to The Federal Trade Commission.
· Medical billing. For only $2000 to $8000 you too can start your own business and be your own boss. Thing is the odds of being able to drum up enough customers to recoup your costs, let alone make a profit, are very slim – and that’s if you have experience!
· Stuffing envelopes. For a small fee we will tell you how you can make money in the comfort of your own home. They’ll stuff an envelope with information on how to place an ad to entice others to answer your ad about making money by stuffing envelopes. Ring-around-the rosie.
· Assembly or craftwork. Just invest some hundreds or thousands of dollars in supplies and equipment and your own sweat and tears to be told your stuff doesn’t meet their ‘quality standards.’
· Answering surveys. A small, one-time fee will get you a list of survey companies that are willing to pay you for your opinion – in a chance that your name will be picked in a monthly prize drawing of all survey takers. You can get paid cash too –50 cents.
The bottom line is you shouldn’t have to pay a red cent (or blue, green or any other color) to apply for a work-from-home job. If the job is legit they will be paying you. Sound about right?
